Meeting for the PhD Development of sustainable, low environmental footprint, antibacterial and coating materials for areas of health interest. Contribution to the Quality of the Internal EnvironmentOn October 19, 2020, a meeting was held for the Doctoral Thesis of the PhD Candidate of the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineers, Mr. Loukas Aggelis, with members of the three-member committee and the scientific staff of PADA, at the School of Public Health. Supervising professor of the dissertation is Dr. George Priniotakis, President of the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineers and members Dr. George Dounias, President of the Department of Public Health Policies and Dr. Vasiliki Belesi, Chemist, Associate Professor of the Department of Graphic Design and Visual Technology (Department of Graphic Arts Technology). This is a promising and innovative interdepartmental dissertation entitled “Development of sustainable, low environmental footprint, antibacterial and antiviral coating materials for areas of health interest. Contribution to the quality of the internal environment (RIP) “.

The purpose of the dissertation is to highlight the contribution of industrial products, low environmental footprint of building coatings and non-woven masonry materials, using innovative and conventional biocidal substances. The study will concern the improvement of the quality of the Internal Environment of areas of health interest, by achieving low emissions of volatile organic compounds and at the same time reducing their microbiological load. The studies that will concern the development of antibacterial and antiviral materials will be carried out in the Materials Laboratory of Graphic Arts Technology of PADA, under the supervision of Assoc. Professor Vasiliki Belesi. The microbiological tests will take place in the laboratory of Assistant. Professor of Microbiology of Public Health – Molecular Microbiology Dr. Georgia Mandilara. Issues such as the design and ventilation of buildings, sustainability and the protection of Public Health will be extensively developed.

This is an interdepartmental scientific study that fulfills in epistemological terms, the concept of interdisciplinarity, as a form of cooperation between different sciences that contribute to achieving a common goal and the “emergence of new knowledge” at the University of West Attica.

” It was really interesting to take a look at the textile laboratories of UNIWA and to be given a tour around the Ancient Olive Grove Campus while learning more about the history of the university. After meeting other Greek and international students, we got the chance to further discuss each other’s projects and explore the old city center of Athens together later on. I am really thankful for this enriching experience! “
